a promotional poster for a film based on the Ang Li book, The Butcher’s Wife—a difficult novella about an abused and neglected asian woman. i took up the task of retelling this haunting story. building from the pain, fear, and isolation of the story, i also took from the visual style of asian art. illustrations were created by hand with pen & ink and i researched the language to write accurate chinese characters for the saking of maintaining authenticity.
